Le Club 55
The original, and still the answer if you only get one day. Club 55 opened in 1955 and became famous when it fed the cast and crew of And God Created Woman — Brigitte Bardot included. That story has been told enough times to be a cliché, and the club has somehow survived being a cliché, which is the impressive part.
The setting is the best on Pampelonne: soft golden sand, rows of cream parasols running down to the water, tables under a canopy of reeds and vines with blue-and-white linen moving in the breeze. It reads rustic rather than glossy, deliberately.
Two practical notes. There's a private jetty and a dedicated boatman reachable on VHF Channel 17, which matters if you're arriving by tender.
Loulou Ramatuelle
The prettiest club on the beach, and the best lunch. Loulou arrived fully formed with Parisian DNA rather than growing out of a beach shack, and it shows in the execution. Whitewashed timber, boat-sail canopies, navy and white stripes, lemon-dressed tables. It channels the 1950s Riviera without tipping into pastiche.
What makes Loulou unusual is that it does both modes properly. Late morning is quiet, families and couples. A house DJ plays through lunch and the energy builds gently, and by aperitivo hour tables have become a dance floor more or less by themselves. It never quite tips into the full champagne-spray version, which is the point. Book weeks ahead.
Jardin Tropezina
Part of the Airelles hotel collection (included in our best boutique hotels in the South of France), this is a beautifully styled beach club on one of the prettiest stretches of sand in Saint-Tropez. We also brought our kids to this restaurant, and while it is definitely geared towards adults, they had a wonderful meal and time. The focus here is the food and design (there’s also a great boutique attached), rather than partying.
Verde Beach
The party pick, and the most credible music on the strip. Verde is deliberately small, which is what makes it work. The kitchen is genuinely good, with bouillabaisse and grilled fish as the specialities, served on a terrace over the sand. Open for lunch and dinner, with valet and boat service. It doesn't pretend to be a family lunch. If you want the Saint-Tropez afternoon that turns into a party, this is where it happens best.
Nikki Beach
Set back from the sand among pine trees, which gives it a different feel from the beachfront clubs. This is the polished, pool-centred party — sunbeds spread across the venue, a strong drinks programme, and a DJ-driven arc through the afternoon. It's the most internationally recognisable name here and the most predictable, in both the good and the limiting sense of that word.
Indie Beach House
The style pick. Wood and bamboo, dune-inspired planters, and a laid-back register that's less about being seen than most of Pampelonne. The menu runs slightly above the going rate but the cooking justifies it, and the craft cocktails and juices are worth the order. Jacquemus has been involved, which is exactly the crowd this attracts. Mattress rental starts around €50. There's a sister club, Playamigos, with a tropical-Mexican vibe.
Shellona
Arrived from Saint-Barthélemy and brought a tech-house programme with it. Younger, louder, and more music-led than the classic Pampelonne clubs — a good option if the 1950s-Riviera register isn't what you came for.
Bagatelle Beach
Straightforwardly the party. Bagatelle does the champagne-and-tables version with no ambiguity and no pretence at being a restaurant that happens to have music. Book it knowing that.
Gigi Ramatuelle
The one that works with children, and worth knowing about because almost nothing else here does. Gigi runs a proper kids' club alongside a refined, low-key adult lounging setup. The quiet, refined end. Attached to the La Réserve group, and the closest Pampelonne gets to restraint. No DJ arc, no theatre — just very good food and a long afternoon. If the whole scene sounds exhausting but you still want to be on this beach, book here.
Moorea Plage
Rebuilt and relaunched, and now one of Pampelonne's party hubs. A jetty makes tender access easy, sunbeds line the sand for the morning, and the restaurant fills from midday. Live DJ sets, entertainers, and dancing on the tables once it takes off. Book ahead or arrive early.
What It Costs, and How to Book

Lunch is where the real money goes — a proper meal for two with wine at Club 55 or Loulou runs well into three figures per person, and rosé pricing on this beach is its own phenomenon.
Book weeks ahead for July and August, and for the headline clubs treat several weeks as the minimum rather than the target. Weekend lunch at Loulou or Club 55 in August is booked out long before you'll think to try.
Consider arriving by boat if that's an option. Club 55, Verde, Moorea, and several others have jetties or tender service, and it sidesteps the Pampelonne road entirely. If you're driving, go early — parking near the good clubs disappears by late morning in season.
Best Time to Visit and When to Book
The Pampelonne season runs roughly May to early October, with the full programme from June through August.
June and September are the answer. Warm sea, every club open, and a meaningful drop in both crowds and prices. September in particular is the local's choice — the water is at its warmest and the beach empties after the first week.
July and August are peak and it shows in everything. This is when the DJ programmes are fully running and when the scene is at its most spectacular, and also when a table requires planning weeks out and the road down to the beach becomes miserable. Avoid the first two weeks of August if you can.
May and early October are quieter and cheaper, with some clubs running reduced hours or not yet open. Beautiful, but not the full experience.
For hotels, Saint-Tropez books as early as anywhere in Europe. Six to nine months for August is not excessive. Rates on the same room routinely halve between mid-August and late September, so if your dates flex at all, price the shoulder first.
