Rosewood Miramar Beach sits on 16 acres of Miramar Beach in Montecito — 16 uninterrupted acres of prime California beachfront between the Pacific and the Santa Ynez Mountains. We went as a family of four and had a wonderful few days. The combination of a genuine beachfront location, two excellent pools, Caruso's directly on the water, and service details that extended specifically to our kids made it one of the better family resort stays we've had in California. Here's the honest picture.

We were upgraded at check-in to a Lanai Suite — a sprawling one-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom villa with a dining nook, living room with pull-out couch, and a small private patio. Perfect for a family of four. The coastal design is tasteful rather than heavy-handed — plush bedding, well-appointed bathroom, and enough space that four people weren't on top of each other.

Two honest notes: the patio overlooked other villas rather than offering meaningful privacy, and only the beachfront suites have direct ocean views. The Lanai Suite does not — which at rooms starting over $1,000 a night is worth knowing before you book. If the ocean view matters, pay the premium for a beachfront room. If you're fine without it, the Lanai configuration for families is otherwise excellent.

Facilities

The grounds are the most immediately impressive thing about Rosewood Miramar. Sixteen acres of manicured property centered around a wide open grassy lawn — the kind that hosts spectacular weddings and kids running between the pools without anyone minding. Not a flower out of place.

Two pools — one family, one adults-only. The family pool is the center of activity for most of the day. Well set up, plenty of space, good poolside service.

The Scoop Shop — Our kids' favorite part of the entire property, and not particularly close. An ice cream parlor adjacent to the family pool, and reception gives kids free ice cream sundae cards at check-in. Small detail, huge kid impact.

S'mores by the fire pits — Available in the evenings and exactly as charming as it sounds.

Miramar Beach Raft — A swim platform positioned a few yards into the ocean. A fun addition on a warm day and a genuine novelty for children.

Beach butler service — Staff set up umbrellas and chairs along the sand for guests. Removes any friction from a beach day.

Outdoor cardio equipment at Rosewood Miramar Beach

Shopping — Goop, James Perse, and Brunello Cucinelli on the grounds. Worth knowing about; not the reason to come.

Spa — Book well ahead. There were no appointments available when we tried to book the day before. The gym is large, well-equipped, and has outdoor cardio equipment alongside the standard indoor setup.

Location

Miramar Beach in Montecito is quiet and almost entirely residential — which is the right setting for this kind of resort and contributes to the secluded feel. A few practical details worth knowing:

There is a working train track running between the main resort area and the beach club, which contains two restaurants and a handful of rooms. The train comes through with some regularity and an attendant is positioned at the crossing. It's not a major inconvenience but it breaks the seamlessness of the property in a way worth mentioning.

The surrounding neighborhood is beautiful but not walkable for dining or shopping. The complimentary jolly service — a pink golf cart that takes guests anywhere within a three-mile radius — covers most of Montecito's shops and restaurants and solves this practically. Our kids requested to take the jolly to dinner specifically, and when the valets heard this, they added booster seats without being asked. One of the smaller service moments that sticks.

Dining

Five restaurants on property. We tried four of them.

Elegant coastal dining at Caruso’s

Caruso's — The best meal of the stay and genuinely one of the better restaurant experiences in Montecito. Modern Italian cooking directly on the water. The location could easily carry a mediocre menu and nobody would complain. The kitchen doesn't take that shortcut — the food is all delicious. Go for dinner at sunset at least once.

The Revere Room — The main all-day dining room. Excellent breakfast with a solid kids' menu. The food quality held up across breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The right choice for a family meal without the formality of Caruso's.

Inside the Scoop Shop at Rosewood Miramar Beach

Miramar Beach Bar — Directly above Caruso's, overlooking the water. More of a cocktail and light bites atmosphere than a proper restaurant — limited menu but what they do serve is good. We had tacos and small plates and thoroughly enjoyed it. Kids' menu available.

Ama Sushi — We were eager to try this but it doesn't accommodate children except on Friday and Saturday nights. Plan accordingly if this is on your list.

Service

The best category score and deserved. The standard Rosewood warmth was there throughout — welcome treats in the room, special gifts for the kids at arrival, and staff who consistently went beyond what was asked. The jolly booster seat moment was one of several examples. The beach butler setup every morning was another. At 9/10 this is among the best service we've experienced at a California resort.

Value

8/10 — which for a hotel starting over $1,000 a night requires some explanation. The facilities, service, dining, and beach access all justify a premium. The caveat is room category: the Lanai Suite is excellent for families but lacks ocean views and meaningful patio privacy at a price point where you'd expect both. If you book a beachfront room the value equation improves significantly. If you're in a standard room category, the price-to-view ratio is the one soft spot in an otherwise strong property.

Is Rosewood Miramar Worth It for Families?

Yes — and we'd go back without hesitation. The combination of genuine beachfront access, two pools, the Scoop Shop, the jolly service, welcome gifts for kids, Caruso's for a special dinner, and service that extended naturally to our children makes it the best family resort in the Santa Barbara area. Book a beachfront room if budget allows, book spa appointments well ahead, and let the kids pick the jolly for at least one dinner.
