Scarp Ridge Lodge Review (2026): The Best Place to Stay in Crested Butte
The short answer: Scarp Ridge Lodge is hands down the best place to stay in Crested Butte. We've stayed several times, both renting a single room and doing a full buyout, and it's the one we'd book every time. It feels like a luxury hotel crossed with a bed and breakfast. The design is beautiful, the food is incredible, and the little extras (a rooftop hot tub, a pool and spa downstairs, a bunk room the kids love) make it feel like your own mountain house. It's two blocks from Elk Avenue, so the whole town is a walk away.
We visit Crested Butte every year, and we've tried a lot of ways to do it. Nothing else in town comes close to this. Unsurprisingly, it tops the list of our best hotels in Crested Butte. As with every review on The Boujist, we paid for our stays ourselves.
The Lodge
Scarp Ridge is the flagship of Eleven, the adventure lodge brand born in Crested Butte. The building is the historic Croatian Hall, a town fixture since the 1880s. From the street it's unassuming. Inside, it opens up into one of the warmest, best-designed spaces in Colorado.
That contrast is what we love. There's real mining-town history in the bones of the place, but the interiors are polished, moody and comfortable. It never feels stuffy. You'll find yourself lingering by the bar or curled up in the living room instead of heading out.
The Rooms
There are five king suites plus a kids' bunk room, and the lodge sleeps up to fourteen. We've done it both ways. Renting a single room gets you the full experience at a fraction of the buyout cost, and you share the common spaces with a handful of other guests. That's where the B&B feel comes in. It's social without being crowded.
The full buyout is something else entirely. With the whole lodge to yourselves, it becomes a private mountain house for your family and friends. It's the best group trip we've ever done in Colorado.
The bunk room is a hit with kids. Ours love it. It gives them their own space, which means the grown-ups get theirs.
The Food
The food is incredible, and it's a big part of why we keep coming back. A chef-prepared breakfast and après are included daily, along with snacks and drinks in your room. You can also book in-house dinners through the Experience Team.
Après is a highlight. Coming back from a hike or a ski day to cocktails and small plates by the fire is about as good as mountain travel gets. And when you do want to eat out, the best restaurants in town are steps away. Our Crested Butte travel guide covers where to eat.
The Pool, Spa and Rooftop Hot Tub
Downstairs, there's an indoor saltwater pool, a sauna and a spa. It's fantastic in winter. After a cold day on the mountain, there's nothing better. Kids will happily spend hours in the pool.
Then there's the rooftop hot tub. The views over town and the surrounding peaks are gorgeous, especially at sunset. Eleven pitches it as the place to sip a local beer after a day out in the Elk Mountains, and that's exactly how we use it.
Guided Adventures
What sets Eleven apart from any other Crested Butte hotel is the guiding. An on-site Experience Team builds your itinerary for you. Local guides lead hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing on Gold Medal water, rafting and more. Most outings cost extra, but they're worth it.
Townie bikes come with your stay, and they're perfect for cruising to Elk Avenue for coffee or dinner.
In winter, Scarp Ridge is the home base for Eleven's snowcat skiing at Irwin, private powder terrain just outside town. If you're a serious skier, it's one of the most unique ski trips in the country. See how it stacks up in our guide to the best luxury ski hotels in the US.
Pair It With the Aspen to Crested Butte Hike
Our favorite way to arrive at Scarp Ridge is on foot. We've paired a stay here with the hike from Aspen to Crested Butte, and it's one of the best weekends we've ever had in Colorado. You spend a long day crossing West Maroon Pass through the wildflowers, then roll into town tired and happy. Ending at a lodge with a pool, a hot tub and a chef waiting is the perfect reward.
The hike starts at the Maroon Bells. If you're building a longer trip, spend a few nights in Aspen first to acclimatize. Our best hotels in Aspen guide has the picks.
Who It's For
Scarp Ridge is ideal for families who want space, great food and adventure built in. It's also perfect for a multigenerational trip or a group of friends doing a buyout. Couples who want a social, intimate stay with real service will love a single room.
It isn't for everyone. If you want ski-in, ski-out access at the resort, you're better off in Mt. Crested Butte. And if you want a big hotel with a lobby bar and room service, this isn't that. That's the point.
Rates and Booking
This is a splurge, so here's how pricing works. For summer 2026, which runs June 2 to October 13, individual rooms start at $1,250 a night for two, with a two-night minimum. A full buyout starts at $8,760 a night for 14 guests, and the lodge can hold up to 18.
Summer 2027 rates are already out. Rooms start at $1,320 a night, and buyouts at $9,240 a night. Split across a full group, a buyout can work out to a surprisingly reasonable per-person cost for this level of stay.

Best Time to Visit and Book
July is our favorite time to stay. The wildflowers peak, the Aspen hike is open, and the town is buzzing. It's also when the lodge books up first, so reserve months ahead, especially for a buyout.
September is a close second. The aspens turn gold on Kebler Pass, the crowds thin, and the light is beautiful. Winter is all about the cat skiing and that downstairs pool.
How It Compares
If Scarp Ridge is booked, Eleven's Sopris House next door is the best alternative. It's smaller, with four bedrooms, and great for a single family. For ski-in, ski-out convenience, the Elevation Hotel at the base of the resort is the pick. But for the full Crested Butte experience, Scarp Ridge wins.
