Best Rooftop Bars in Rome (2026): Where to Drink With a View

view from the Vista Club rooftop bar in Rome Italy

Rome was built for the rooftop aperitivo. As the heat drops and the stone turns gold, the city's best terraces open up over a skyline of domes, bell towers and — if you pick the right one — the Colosseum itself. Some are hidden cocktail clubs you'd never find from the street; others sit on top of the grandest hotels in the city. These are the ones worth booking, starting with our own favorite.

The Vista Rooftop — our favorite

This was the highlight of our Rome aperitivos, and it's the one we'd send you to first. The Vista is a hidden rooftop club on Via di Torre Argentina, near the Pantheon — and "hidden" is right. From the street it's an unmarked black door; you buzz, get let in, take an old lift to the top, and step out onto a small terrace with 360-degree views over the rooftops of central Rome. The cocktails are excellent, the tapas are good, the service is genuinely warm, and the prices are noticeably more reasonable than the big hotel terraces. Reserve ahead and go for sunset. It feels like a secret, which is exactly the point.

Cielo at Hotel de la Ville

The glamorous choice. Cielo sits on top of Rocco Forte's Hotel de la Ville at the head of the Spanish Steps, with wide views over the rooftops and domes of the centro storico. It's polished, dressy and made for a proper cocktail at golden hour. Come for the see-and-be-seen version of a Rome rooftop, and book if you want a table at sunset.

the court at palazzo manfredi in Rome Italy

The Court at Palazzo Manfredi

For the Colosseum view, this is the one. Palazzo Manfredi looks straight out at the amphitheater, and while Aroma is its Michelin-starred restaurant upstairs, the Court is the cocktail bar where you can have that same jaw-dropping view over a drink without committing to a tasting menu. It's expensive and worth it once — there's nothing else quite like drinking with the lit Colosseum filling the horizon.

La Terrazza at Hotel Eden

The grand-hotel panorama. The Eden, a Dorchester Collection hotel near the Spanish Steps, has one of the most sweeping rooftop views in the city, reaching all the way to St Peter's dome. It's elegant and a little formal — the place for a special-occasion drink before dinner. Dress the part.

Terrazza Borromini

The Navona view. On top of the Eitch Borromini hotel beside Piazza Navona, this terrace looks straight down over the square and the curves of Borromini's and Bernini's baroque Rome. It's one of the most distinctive vantage points in the city and a lovely spot for an evening aperitivo.

Imàgo at the Hassler

The special-occasion view. The Hassler crowns the top of the Spanish Steps, and its Michelin-starred Imàgo looks out over a rooftop sea toward the horizon. This is more a fine-dining-with-a-view experience than a casual drinks stop, so save it for a celebration.

Settimo at the Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese

The sunset pick. The Sofitel's rooftop near Villa Borghese has a terrace angled toward St Peter's dome, which makes it one of the better spots in the city to watch the sun go down with a glass in hand. Quieter and a little less scene-y than the Spanish Steps terraces.

notos rooftop bar in rome italy

NOTOS Rooftop at Six Senses Rome

The garden-in-the-sky. On the fifth floor of Six Senses Rome at Piazza San Marcello, just off Via del Corso near the Pantheon, NOTOS is planted like a Mediterranean roof garden — aromatic herbs, terracotta pots and greenery, with views over the church domes and the Montecitorio bell tower. In keeping with the wellness-minded hotel below it, the menu leans toward botanical cocktails and light, fish- and vegetable-forward sharing plates. It's the calm, stylish, leafy alternative to the grander hotel terraces, and a lovely spot for an early-evening aperitivo. It runs seasonally, roughly spring through November.

Zuma

The livelier option. The Rome outpost of the global Japanese restaurant sits atop Palazzo Fendi near the Spanish Steps, with a buzzy rooftop bar that draws a fashionable, energetic crowd. Come here when you want the night to feel like a party rather than a quiet aperitivo.

Tips for Rome Rooftop Bars

Reserve ahead for anywhere good, especially for a sunset table — they go first. Most rooftop terraces are seasonal, running roughly April through October, though a few of the hotel bars stay open year-round. Expect to dress smart at the grand-hotel rooftops, and expect to pay for the view: cocktails generally run €18–€25. And time it for the hour before sunset, when the light on the city is at its best and you can watch it shift as you drink.
